The Racehorse Dude is MUCH better. It is amazing how quickly he recovered from that abscess. This morning Andolu turned up with swelling in that right front leg. The vet said he most likely has an abscess, which apparently is very common after laminitis. SO, no more cold soaking - now we're going to be do doing hot epsom salt baths to draw the abscess out of his hoof. Andolu is actually a bit better this afternoon. He is moving around voluntarily quite a bit more than he was, and starting to think about depriving Mira of her fair share of food again. Today was another gorgeous day, as you can see. It started out rather interesting though, with car trouble before dawn. I had to borrow a family member's car to get to work. My car was making interesting grinding noises, that sounded expensive... We'll see what it is, but if it is something we can't fix ourselves, then I'll just have to make do with borrowing cars for now. I can't afford repair

The Mira-mare is still eating & drinking and feeling great. Very nice to be able to relax a bit! We're almost back to full feed now.Her eye wasn't looking quite as good today, but I'm hoping that is just because she was squinting in the bright sun (both eyes) every time I went out today. As promised, here is a photo of Mira eating from a lawn chair. :-) This was requested as a funny "look how (not) spooky the Arab is!" example. I think I'd better get some pictures of Andolu following the plastic and paper feed carrying bags around, too. You can see the mud on Andolu's legs - I took the photo when I was about half done grooming him. He likes to roll even when it is really cold mud, which I keep telling him is crazy. Oh well! In Mira's pic you can't really tell anything is wrong, which is nice. Both horses have definitely, uh, put on the pounds, though! Hopefully I'll be able to find some time to start riding him before long. Ha

Sorry it took me so long to update this. What we decided on is this. We're going to treat it aggressively with the antifungals and antibiotics for 2 weeks. That probably is not enough time to make much of a difference, but it's the best I can do. After that, I will continue treating the eye with gentocin and any herbs the Chinese Medicine practitioner feels might help. We will do that for several

The vet came and looked at Mira today and said that the pus in the anterior chamber of the eye cleared up, which is good, but her eyelid is still somewhat closed, meaning there is still pain. Not good. The ulcer is slightly raised and appears to him as if it has a fungal infection. Bad! If it were a melting ulcer I would just schedule an appointment to remove the eye right away. Well, we had a lot of rain/snow over the weekend, but I got more sleep, even though I had to work both jobs on Saturday, so I am feeling better right now. And this afternoon it cleared up and was nice and sunny, which was a major help for getting things done.And today it looked like Mira was using her eye more than she has been, and the lid looked exactly like the other eyelid, not swollen at all
